Background

Commissioned by Creative Scotland and led by V&A Dundee, Design for Scotland explores how to develop a strategic and focused approach to supporting design nationally.

We were appointed to lead the research project, engage with the sector and produce recommendations for making change happen.

Approach

We took a design-led approach, working in partnership with design futures specialists, Andthen, and cultural policy and strategy experts, how2glu.

Together, we conducted research to understand how the design sector looks today, and facilitated a cross-disciplinary group to develop a future vision.

Then, drawing upon international examples of national design strategy, and the priorities of our sector participants, we generated a set of recommendations for Scotland to develop a collaborative leadership model, and unlock the full value of design to address societal challenges.
